Classical Pilates Studio "PMA Certified" Pilates in Charleston & Mt Pleasant, SC
Beth Sterne, Owner and PMA Certified Pilates Instructor I am Beth Sterne, Pilates Method Alliance certified instructor and the owner of Classical Pilates. I invite you to change your body and overall well-being by trying Pilates. Whether you experience Pilates on the apparatus in a one-on-one session with me or try a group mat class, through consistent work (at least 2x per week), I guarantee that you will feel dramatically different and notice dramatic changes in your appearance. I offer introductory specials because I feel so strongly that getting people in and moving is classical pilates’ best advertisement. How I started I started taking mat classes a couple of times a week and got hooked on Pilates because of the way it made me feel. I have played sports all my life and had some muscles that were tight and overdeveloped. Before I started Pilates, I was experiencing lower back pain, and when I was under a lot of stress, I felt extreme tightness and pain in my shoulders and neck. Pilates instantly relieved this pain. I was converted! I soon noticed improvement in my posture. My muscles were becoming more defined. The changes were subtle in terms of inches but dramatic in terms of overall appearance. I appeared taller, stronger and more confident. My strength, flexibility and muscle tone as well as overall body awareness and concentration started to dramatically increase. I wanted to learn more about this life changing method.
My Training I am certified by Power Pilates in New York City. Power Pilates is committed to teaching the “classical” approach to Pilates as it is laid out in the teachings of Joseph Pilates. I trained under Bob Liekens and Susan Moran, two of the most highly esteemed teachers in the Pilates profession. I have put the time in to learn the "classical" Pilates system as it was intended by Joseph Pilates. I logged over 600 apprenticeship hours observing teaching for many of the most accomplished teachers in the business. I am passionate and committed to continuing my education. Over the years I have worked with such highly esteemed teachers as Mary Bowen, Michelle Larsson, John Friend, Desiree Rumbaugh, Martin Kirk, and many others. My Teaching I started studying Pilates over a decade ago in Atlanta, GA before moving to New York City where I taught for several years for Power Pilates. I moved to Charleston to open my studio to bring the exciting benefits of Pilates to this area. I have seen the benefits Pilates has had on many different types of clients. I have taught teens to elderly men and women alike. I have taught healthy clients as well as clients with back and neck pain, scoliosis, pregnancy, fibromyalgia, ankylosing spondylitis, and various chronic joint and neuromuscular injuries. I have seen in these clients the miraculous benefits of a committed Pilates practice. My Mission Joseph Pilates’ goal was to improve the overall health of society and wanted a Pilates studio on every block. In NYC today, there is a studio on almost every block. My experience teaching in NYC was invaluable, and now I am so excited to bring this experience to Charleston. This studio’s mission is to carry on the “classical method” - Pilates as intended by it’s creator, Joseph Pilates. He said, "Health is a normal condition; it is our duty not only to attain it but to maintain it." Whether you are experienced in Pilates or trying it out for the first time, I am confident that with consistent work on the apparatus and/or mat classes, you will feel better and see noticeable differences in your body.
